  • Your passport is unique, take care of it! Always carry a copy of your passport and keep the original in the safe at your hotel along with money, jewelry and other valuables.

  • Currency exchange, mainly use banks or authorized exchange houses. For bank procedures, the original passport must be presented.

  • It is recommended to use ATMs that are located in public places such as shopping centers, shopping malls, malls. Do not accept help from strangers, do not give out keys.

  • Belongings, such as bags, wallets or others. Don't leave your belongings unattended, keep them close and don't let go.

  • Public transport. If you use a taxi, uber, or others, verify that it is official in the country. In Costa Rica, the public vehicle, like the taxi, is red, with a triangle on the door that details the license plate. Verify that you have a rate meter.

  • If you use a rental vehicle, make sure you keep the doors closed and locked, and do not leave valuable items in plain sight on the seats.

  • Accident or actions to stop the vehicle by strangers. Do not stop at unknown signs and if you have an accident wait for the traffic officer.

  • Protection of girls and boys. In Costa Rica we protect our children and adolescents. The sexual exploitation of minors is a crime punishable by law.
